the breathtaking Trevi Fountain and amazing Pantheon

does anybody read these things? Im terribly long winded, its cool if you dont, just wondering.

What I know about the Fontana di Trevi:

its one of the most famous fountains in the world and the largest baroque fountain in Rome

its 85 feet hight and 65 feet wide

an estimated 3,000 euros are thrown into the fountain daily..wow! The money is used to subsidize a grocery for the needy.

legend has it if you thrown 3 coins in, over your right shoulder, it guarantees love in marriage. 1 coin guarantees a return to Rome.

We only threw onem over our right shouder..but Im certain our love is guaranteed anyway.

the fountain marks the point where three aquaducts met to support water the the city and was the main source of pure water for rome in 19 bc

I may have mentioned it before, but we had the sweeeetest hotel in Rome. It was the Relais Fontana di Trevi luxury suites. You step out the front door and the Trevi Fountain is right there at your feet! Its a buzzing area of town, obviously, as its such a tourist attraction.

Im standing at the fountain to take this photo. The rooftop restaurant that we enjoyed is right at the top and the entrance to the hotel is just to the left.

When we got off the subway and were making our way down the cobblestone Roman streets, we just followed signs for the Fontana di Trevi because we knew it would be right there. When we first saw it, actually, I cant speak for Buddy, but when I first saw it, it was everything I imagined it would be and better! I think that's a common phrase of mine on that trip, everything was better than I imagined. I just stood and stared and awed and didn't want to leave, luckily, I never had to, our Hotel was right there!

the streests of rome. The hotel entrance is to the right, blends right in with everything else.

What I didn't expect was it to be SO saturated with people. It was nearly impossible to get down to the front to throw a coin in (but we certainly did!) We even went out late late, like 2am and it was still that crowded. It was really beautiful and peaceful in the early morning when no one was there. (as we finally ate an american breakfast with bacon and eggs!) But regardless of the time, its a super impressive sight!

It hard to see, but...there arent hoardes of people in the morning, its really peaceful and beautiful

I dont know if it really is, but it appears as though the fountain was carved right out of the building it stands in front of.

The Pantheon

What I know about the Pantheon

Its enormous!

I was dissapointed that half of it was covered in scafolding.

commissioned by Marcus Agrippa as a temple to all the gods of Ancient Rome, and rebuilt by Emperor Hadrian in about 126 AD

Almost two thousand years after it was built, the Pantheon's dome is still the world's largest unreinforced concrete dome

Its 142 feet high

The columns are hand made (obviously ) but to consider their size, its almost unimaginable

It us currently a church known as the Santa Maria Rotunda

There are many weddings there (which would be SO cool, I think)

the only source of light is a large hole, or window at the top of the rotunda

Its a tomb. One of the persons buried there is the painter, Raphael.

I love this photo because it shows the sheer enormity of the columns!

We took out for a walk one evening, with no particular place to go other than to find the pantheon. When we can into the large square where it sits, it was buzzing with people. it was early evening and the sidewalk tables were filled with people and music being played by several people here and there
